What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilized needles.

The small wounds cause your body to make more collagen and elastin, which heal your skin and help you look younger. You might also hear this procedure being referred to as collagen induction therapy.

Who benefits from Microneedling?

People with the following skin concerns/indications can benefit significantly from Microneedling treatments:

Acne

Hyperpigmentation

Large Pores

increase Skin Laxity

Scars

Stretch Marks

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling is a method of triggering the repair response of skin. The needles on a microneedling device puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury. Each puncture of the needle creates a microscopic channel, or empty space. The skin recognizes this channel as tissue loss and begins to produce collagen and elastin to “fill” the channel. Collagen is the main structural protein in skin responsible for sustaining skin integrity, firmness, and elasticity. The result is an improvement in skin texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

Treatment areas

Microneedling isn’t exclusive to just the face. While it’s the area of skin that is most often treated, the procedure can be done anywhere the skin on the body needs a collagen boost. Particularly, the legs, chest, back, or buttock area can be treated successfully with this Treatment.

What should I expect during treatment?

In-office microneedling treatments can take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour depending upon the area being treated. The length of the needle will affect whether there will be any discomfort or bleeding. Deeper microneedling is generally performed with a numbing cream to maximize patient comfort. Your skincare professional will then apply the microneedling device over your skin to create tiny punctures. The sensation is often described as feeling “prickly”.

Immediately after treatment, your skin may experience redness and minor swelling. These effects generally subside within a day but can take up to one week to fully resolve. Since your skin is more sensitive following a procedure, it is highly recommended to avoid sun exposure immediately after.

Microneedling treatments can be applied to anywhere on the body where there is skin, and not just the face. See if Microneedling treatments are right for your area of concern.

Frequently Asked Questions

At 413 Medical Aesthetics, our experienced experts will check that the area to be treated is free of:

  1. Open Lesions
  2. Active Funal, Viral, or Bacterial infections
  3. Skin Cancer and more…

As a general rule of thumb, this treatment can be safely done about once a month or every 4 to 6 weeks.

Wait at least four hours to wash your face. Your skin may feel warm and tight and look red for one to three days. During this period, use a delicate cleanser and moisturizer, and apply 1% hydrocortisone cream as needed to soothe skin irritation if necessary.

To get the full benefits of the treatment, you should get a series of treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. This gives the skin enough time to make real progress with renewing itself and creating enough collagen and elastin to give long-lasting results. For harder to treat issues like deep scarring, you may need up to eight sessions.
